The project on Austrian-Czech history was initiated by the Standing Conference of Austrian and Czech Historians on Common Cultural Heritage (SKÖTH), which since its founding in 2009 has strived to produce a book on common Austrian-Czech history for the general public. Work on the book began in 2014 and from the beginning also included the intention to create teaching modules for schools dealing with topics of Austrian-Czech history. The result was 13 modules, which were reviewed by both the didactics team and the members of SKÖTH. The modules chronologically cover the period from the Defenestration of Prague in 1618 to the 1970s. They often refer directly to chapters from the publication: "NEIGHBOURS. A joint Austrian-Czech history book".
The modules are designed to be suitable for regular history and civics lessons. Their "added value" consists in the references to Austrian-Czech history. Eleven modules are designed for classroom teaching. Two modules provide material for field trips to Prague [Praha] and Nikolsburg [Mikulov]. The excursions can be carried out by Czech, Austrian and mixed groups of pupils.
