Ours or Others? | Jews in the Czech 20th Century

The aim of the project is to create educational materials on the history of Jews in the Czech lands in the 20th century. These materials will be tested and introduced directly into primary and secondary schools and they will be part of interactive workshops for pupils at the Educational and Cultural Centre of the Jewish Museum in Prague and they will also be presented to teachers at workshops.

The project will assist teachers in implementing curriculum reform and aims to provide teachers with sufficient materials to teach the often neglected 20th century. In particular, it will immediately facilitate the fulfilment of the expected outcomes of history, in particular the thematic unit Modern Times, according to which pupils will 'interpret anti-Semitism, racism and their unacceptability from the point of view of human rights' and 'recognise the destructive power of totalitarianism and intense nationalism'.

The project is also designed as a prevention against manifestations of racism and xenophobia. In response to the growing hostility towards minorities, different religious beliefs, rising xenophobia, anti-Semitism and the increase in street violence, it aims to promote discussion and understanding of the historical roots of current events and their possible consequences. Promoting understanding between people of different religions, skin colour and backgrounds creates a tolerant civil society sensitive to manifestations of injustice, racism and xenophobia.
