»Die Gegenwart der Vergangenheit in Museen und Gedenkstätten«

23–25/05/2024
The conference of the Joint German-Polish and Joint German-Czech Textbook Commissions on "The Presence of the Past in Museums and Memorials", which will take place from 23-25 May 2024 on the grounds of the Ravensbrück Memorial, aims to contribute to the discussion about practices of remembrance.

The concept of the textbook narrative has been expanded in recent years to include new forms of storytelling about the past, with reference to the role of literature and art, film and other (educational) media. The Ravensbrück Conference will focus in particular on museum education approaches in school practice. The aim is to discuss the construction of a dialogical museum narrative that enables viewers to convey historical events in such a way that young people also feel addressed by them. In doing so, we are going beyond the usual bilateral context of the individual textbook commissions by bringing together research perspectives and current activities of the two expert committees.

The conference will be given a particularly festive setting by the opening event at the Representation of the State of Brandenburg to the Federal Government in Berlin, where we will award the Maria Wawrykowa Prize of the Joint German-Polish Textbook Commission to Prof. Dr. Anna Wolff-Powęska.

The conference is organized by the Joint German-Polish Textbook Commission in cooperation with the Joint German-Czech Textbook Commission and in cooperation with the Ravensbrück Memorial, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute in Braunschweig and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań/Poznan.

The information was taken from the organizer's website.
